Five Bullets 8.5.22
This week: Pino Palladino/Blake Mills, Louis Armstrong, Dalmatians & more
Happy Friday everyone! Welcome back to Circles In Space, where each Friday I share five things I found interesting. This week’s topics:
Over the weekend I had a chance to see legendary bassist Pino Palladino with collaborator guitarist/producer Blake Mills perform in support of their 2021 album Notes With Attachments. The show was a genre-bending masterclass of rich tones and textures which, summed up in a word, equals JAZZ. I blogged about the show and gave the album another listen. Check out their Tiny Desk Concert or this video playlist of tracks off the record.
Happy Birthday Louis Armstrong! Yesterday August 4th would have been the trumpeter’s 121st birthday. Let’s pause and give this man his due for his contributions to American music and culture.
Ever wonder why Dalmatians can usually be found in firehouses? Historically, Dalmatians were trained to guard horse-drawn fire carriages and alert passersby to clear the way in front of the firehouse. Nowadays, the spotted dogs are mascots, a reminder of the important role their breed played in firefighting.
Perhaps you’ve seen Netflix’s film Spiderhead starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller and Jurnee Smolleet. I’ve yet to watch the film but dived into the short story the film is based on: George Saunders’s pharmacological nightmare Escape from Spiderhead.
7.83 hz, referred to as the Schumann resonance, is the frequency at which the Earth’s atmosphere resonates. These resonances are created from electrical activity between the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere. The resonance may play a role in human and animal behavior as well as our consciousness. The Earth is alive - let’s treat it with respect!

That's all for this week! As always, thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
Until next time,
