Five Bullets 12.27.24
Saunas, Sun, Minimalism, & more.
Good Morning and Happy Friday.
This morning is partly cloudy and 30°F in New York City. I hope you enjoyed your holidays and I wish you a very happy and healthy New Year. Today I’m thinking about New Year’s resolutions and all those we lost this year.
I’ll be in sunny Puerto Rico next week so I’m pausing the newsletter. See you on Friday January 10th! As always, thanks again for making another year of Circles In Space possible.
Here’s five bullets which captured my attention this week:
Health: What’s more relaxing than a sauna and cold plunge? I enjoyed this roadtrip exploring Lake Superior’s sauna culture which has roots in Objibwe sweat lodges and Scandinavian saunas.
Minimalism: Last week I wrote that I was welcoming the new year by letting go of unused possessions. When it’s time to declutter I revisit the minimalist practice of Fumio Sasaki, author of Goodbye Things. His lifestyle seems uncomplicated and simple - removing possessions makes room for more living.
Music: If you’re looking for more Bob Dylan content this week check out documentary The New Basement Tapes. Elvis Costello, Rihannon Giddens, Jim James, Marcus Mumford and Taylor Goldsmith come together under the guidance of T Bone Burnett to craft songs from never-before-seen Dylan lyrics written during the original 1967 Basement Tapes sessions.
New York City: Ever wonder what’s in those boxes on New York City streets? The box is one of 900 drinking water sampling stations. Check out Public Opinion’s video on New York City’s water.
Science: NASA’s Parker Solar Probe survived it’s extremely close fly-by of the Sun, at 3.8 million miles from the surface. The probe was sent to gather data on solar wind and coronal mass ejections by flying into the sun’s outer atmosphere.
That’s all for this week! I really enjoy getting this weekly newsletter together. It gives me a reason to explore my interests, learn more, and share it with you. Get five bullets of stuff I’m hearing, reading and seeing in your inbox every Friday.
Have a great weekend,
Keith.
