Five Bullets 11.28.25: Jazz, Cats & Worksheets
What's capturing our attention: creative worksheets; jazz guitar; New York's water crisis, & learning from cats.
Good Morning Friends -
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all enjoyed time with family and friends yesterday. A big Thank You for reading and supporting Circles In Space over the past year.
Here’s what’s capturing my attention this week:
I’m happy to share that you can now purchase my custom clipboard worksheet! I’ve found it helpful for staying focused with creative projects. Learn more here:
I read 2182 Kilohertz by David Masiel while I had some time off this week. The novel is an exciting read about a tugboat crew of misfits experiencing the thrills and dangers of working in the Arctic Ocean. I won’t spoil it for you but Masiel employs the themes of circles and cycles to describe the ups and downs of the crew’s lives while navigating icy seas.
Jazz guitarist John Scofield has played with everyone from Charles Mingus and Miles Davis to Medeski, Martin & Wood and Phil Lesh. I grew up on VHS tapes of his Blue Matter band with drummer Dennis Chambers. Scofield adapts, changes and always tries something new, bringing his musicality and skillful playing to each new project. I’ll be checking out Scofield’s trio tonight at the Blue Note.
“Keep New York Wet. Save Water.” When New York experienced a severe drought in 1980, Mayor Ed Koch asked the city’s kids to help spread the word about conserving water. Those kids have some real New York accents!
“To love someone is to love whatever they need to be their fullest, truest self rather than a projection of who we imagine or desire them to be.” The Marginalian explores Sandol Stoddard’s children’s book which demonstrates that cats can teach us a great deal about loving and respecting one another.
