Five Bullets 11.10.23
Audiobooks, Flaco the Owl, Kwame Braithwaite & more
Good morning and happy Friday everyone!
Welcome back to Circles in Space.
Today’s Bullets:
Audiobooks: After reading an enthusiastic essay on audiobooks I downloaded audio versions of a few books I’ve read previously, including Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art and Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird. Listening to authors read their own work makes it all the more impactful. I’m trying to expand my audiobook collection. What are you reading/listening to?
Drums: Rapper 2 Chainz meets the Drum Doctor Ross Garfield to talk about Garfield’s collection of over 400 drum sets. For more check out Garfield talking drums with drummers.
NYC: The Eurasian eagle-owl named Flaco who escaped from the Central Park Zoo back in February has been spotted near a park in the East Village. Flaco spent 13 years in captivity before his escape and resided most of the year in Central Park’s North Woods section. Fireworks from this years NYC marathon may have prompted him to relocate to the East Village.
Photography: Kwame Brathwaite’s photos of jazz musicians, Harlem, the Grandassa Models, and Muhammad Ali.
Podcasts: The White Vault, one of my favorite horror audio dramas, is back with new season Goshawk. This is one of those podcasts I keep coming back to because the writers sure know how to create a feeling of isolation in their snowy & icy environments as their protagonists struggle to escape supernatural predators. This new season is off to a suspenseful start.
