Five Bullets 10.27.23
Happy (early) Halloween!
Good morning and happy Friday everyone!
Welcome back to Circles in Space.

Today’s Bullets:
Halloween: Each year I find myself wondering about the origins of Halloween. Check out this quick read on the history behind this spookiest of holidays.
Movies: I had a chance to see Tim Burton’s 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas celebrating it’s 30th anniversary on the big screen. Later in the week, I rewatched Sleepy Hollow, Burton’s take on the classic Washington Irving story.
Music: The Budos Band visited KEXP for an in-studio performance to promote their new EP Frontier’s Edge. I’ve always found the Staten Island band’s distinct instrumental sound equal parts mysterious and fantastical (ie Burnt Offering). Make sure you see Budos live - this band takes no prisoners!
Podcast: With all of it’s history, New York City must have plenty of ghosts! The Bowery Boys tell Gilded Age ghost stories in their Halloween special.
Here’s a post on Edgar Allen Poe.

What an interestingly spooky newsletter this week! I enjoyed reading the history of Halloween. Let’s bring back carved turnips!
And happy three year anniversary to your blog!
Carved turnips 😂
